  • Enjoy watching the famous Acrobats in action: The famous Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe has performed around the globe and is a wonderful night out for visitors to Shanghai. Their movement is art - tightly choreographed and rehearsed endlessly. You can find them at the Shanghai Center Theatre, where they generally perform 7 nights a week.

  • Ba people's hanging coffins In the past, people considered that the higher a dead man was buried, the more dutiful their descendants would be. This is the reason for "hanging coffins". There is also another belief that the height of the hanging coffin represents the rank of the dead person. There are 108 hanging coffins in Bawu Gorge in Chongqing and they sure make for an interesting visit if you are in the area.

  • A visit to the Beijing Zoo:  Located in the north western part of the city, the Beijing Zoo is the largest zoo in China. Originally a private garden owned by a Qing royal aristocrat, the site was converted into a zoo by Empress Dowager Cixi in 1901. It was intended to house a collection of animals a Chinese minister had imported from China at great cost and presented to the Empress as gifts. By the 1930s, most of the animals had died and were then stuffed for display in a museum on the grounds. Today the zoo contains some 6000 animals of over 570 species from different parts of the country. It has been famous for its collection of rare animals, particularly the giant pandas and the golden monkeys.

  • A visit to the Tiananmen Square- A visit to this historic landmark is one of the most necessary things to do in China. It is forever associated with protest and freedom, Tiananmen Square is imbued with a certain quiet power that is essential to any stop in Beijing.

  • Dazu Rock Carvings Chongqing: The work of Dazu Rock Carvings began in the first year of Yonghui in Tang dynasty (650A.D.), and continued until Ming and Qing dynasties. Now, it enjoys equal popularity with Yungang and Longmen Grottoes. The general term of "Dazu Rock Carvings" refers to all the cliff-side carvings in Dazu county, which includes the carvings in Beishan (including Beita), Baodingshan, Nanshan, Shizhuanshan and Shimenshan. Baoding Grotto, 15 km northeast of the county seat, is the largest and best preserved one and is a key cultural relic site under state protection. There are more than 50,000 Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian rock carvings and 100,000 characters of inscriptions dotted around Dazu.

  • A walk along the Great Wall of China: A walk along the Great Wall of China is the most popular of the things to do in China. At the classic Chinese landmark, one can climb the wall at a number of locations throughout the countryside, both packed with tourists or in the remote passages, where one can wander within the guard towers with significantly less interruptions. Construction of the Great Wall started in the 7th century B.C.

  • Admire the Li River Scenery- The Li River originates in the Mao'er Mountain in Xin'an county northeast of Guilin, and  winds its way southeast, passing through Guilin, Yangshuo, Pingle, Zhaoping and finally meeting Xi River in Wulin. It boasts the largest and most beautiful scenic area in China and attracts thousands of visitors yearly. The 83km long waterway from Guilin to Yangshuo is the masterwork of the Li River, adorned with rolling hills, steep cliffs, and fantastic caves and considered an explorer's heaven and well worth discovering.

  • Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Emperor Qin Shi Huang: This place is widely known as the eighth wonder of the world which is located in Xian. It houses the underground battle formation comprising 6,000 life-size pottery warriors and horses as the dead emperor's guards can be viewed by the public. The pottery soldiers each weight over 300 kg, about 1.86 m tall, stand row after row in battle formation.
  • Martial Arts such as Taxi Chi are popular throughout China and if one is not interested in joining the action the various forms of this sport always makes for entertaining viewing.

  • Mountaineering With nine of the world’s 14 peaks above 8,000 meters in China, including the two highest (Mt. Everest and K2) and countless others above 6,000 meters in height, China has been the focal point of mountaineers around the world for years.
