Shanghai Tourist Attractions

Shanghai China, called "Hu" for short, is a bustling metropolis located at the mouth of the Yangtze River. Connected with Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces in the west, the city is exposed to the East China Sea in the east. Shanghai also enjoys a delightful climate with four distinct seasons. Annual temperatures average 16 C and annual rainfall averages 1200 millimeters. Because of its open to foreigners and its coastal location, Shanghai is endowed with rich tourist attractions related to its long and rich historical past.

HUANGPU RIVER CRUISE

Huangpu River, the most important shipping artery of Shanghai, wriggles like an undulating muddy dragon from the mouth of the Yangtze River in Wusong to the East China Sea. The yellow and ice-free Huangpu River is 114 kilometers long, 400 meters wide and has an average depth of nine meters.

ORIENTAL PEARL TOWER

Oriental Pearl TV Tower with a giddy height of 468 meters stands as the world's third tallest TV tower, after the 553-meter CN Tower in Toronto and the 535-meter Moscow TV Tower. The inner tower is a recreational palace, while the Shanghai Municipal History Museum is located in the tower's pedestal. The large lower sphere has a futuristic space city and a fabulous sightseeing hall.

SHANGHAI MUSEUM

The Shanghai Museum at the People's Square is in the possession of a vast collection of exhibits, world-class architecture, and high-tech facilities. The museum's unique architectural style - with a round roof and square base - combines China's traditional culture and modern spirit, giving visitors a complete and pleasant visual surprise upon first sight. TEMPLE OF JADE BUDDHA

The Yufo (Jade Buddha) Temple was built in 1882 but after all those years it remains in perfect condition as a sanctuary of Zen Buddhism. The temple derived its name from a jade statue of Sakyamuni from Myanmar. The image of the Buddha, his graceful posture. The Sitting Buddha is in the Jade Buddha Tower and the Recumbent Buddhas are in the Recumbent Buddha Hall.

THE BUND

"Bund" derives from an Anglo-Indian word for an embankment along a muddy waterfront and that is what it was in the beginning when the first British company opened office there in 1846. Buildings in Greek, Renaissance and Baroque styles can be viewed in the western part of The Bund. The boat ride on the River will take the visitors down to the estuary of the Yangtze River in 3.15 hours.

YUYUAN GARDEN

A visit to the Old City is easily combined with a stop at Yuyuan Garden, a well-restored Suzhou-style garden created during the Ming Dynasty. The garden is immensely popular with local residents and visiting Chinese. In the middle of the garden, the Huijing Tower area has ponds, bridges, viewing pagodas, rock formations and large trees. It is a peaceful area to relax and look at the different angles the garden's designers have created.
